As It Is (with Janet Long and Caroline Huf in M16 Artspace Canberra 2016) was an exhibition about experimentation and the acceptance of failure. Works ranged from 3-D plywood forms hinged together in random fashion and manipulated to form sculptural forms; other triangular plywood pieces linked by cloth tape dangled like carcasses. Photocopied images of piles of waste from local tips, leftovers from scissoring piled and photographed on a sheet of plywood and then laser cut-out. Blurred photos from a moving car were chequered and overlaid by sections of triangular plywood. Photocopies of experiments formed another work. It was liberating to value the trials in the evolution of more resolved works.
Materials: paper, paint, inks, wood stains, plywood, cloth tape, aluminium flashing hinges, laser cutting, painter’s tape, stapes, pins, photographs.
