Chimeras (in The Secret Life of Plants Academy of Science Canberra 2001) was a series of engraved scraperboard shapes where every ‘negative’ cut-out was re-combined with the ‘positive’ form to assemble a new patchwork shape. In Greek mythology the ‘chimera’ is a fantastic blend of lion, serpent and goat. In biotechnology the term is used to refer to the transfiguring of nature using recombinant genetic engineering’s splices and grafts.
Materials: scraperboard, pins, backing wooden supports.
