Under the House (Artspace Sydney 1990, 24hr Art Darwin 1991) was a collaborative show with Matthew Tome inspired by the Jungian concept of the space beneath the house as the subconscious/unconscious. Tome and I took photos in the sub-floor spaces beneath an old home and used these images behind hand-printed letterpress statements in the catalogue. The gallery walls were multi-layered: blindfold drawings done by the artists working in tandem on large rolls of newsprint were overlaid by rubbings of architectural features on sheets of drafting film. This work confirmed for me the magic of the uncertainties and discoveries when the artist prioritises a making process over a pre-decided outcome.

Materials: newsprint, drafting film, graphite, charcoals, pastels, photography, letterpress.
