The House and the Grass Seed (part of 24:7 program of events, Calthorpe’s House Canberra 2004, bought by Canberra Museum and Gallery) was a perspex and textual reconstruction of the historic home Calthorpe’s House. This heritage home echoed the British dream of beauty, happiness and domestication contained within brick walls and garden fences, in a vain attempt to defend itself from the rough alien nature outside its perimeter: “No…socks with grass seeds”, “no blowflies”, “no muddy feet” in this house!
